The importance of mentoring can be summed up in two words: LIVES CHANGED.
A very close friend of mine has a natural gift of bringing out the best in people. Many a parent has solicited his advice and asked that he speak to their child for the sake of setting them on the straight and narrow. (I wish I had a count for how many lives he’s positively affected this way, but I just know it’s probably close to a hundred.) Well, God decided it was time for him to be an official mentor and set up his first “appointment.”
His first task on the books is to mentor a troubled high school teen. Yesterday was the “meet-n-greet”; every week thereafter will be the building/nurturing time. Let me tell you that I am SO excited about what is about to happen! When God moves, the sky opens and lives are forever changed. To God be the glory!
BTW, check out the holiday issue of Glamour magazine. The Honorable Mrs. Michelle Obama graces the cover (a first for first ladies since 1939) and talks about the importance of mentoring. Be sure to pick up a copy.
